I am working with Ithra, a big cultural centre in Saudi Arabia. They invited me to do a project called Story of You. This project helps people feel more themselves when meeting new people by using conversations and body language.
We are often told not to talk to strangers as kids, but sometimes that makes us scared or shy as adults. This project helps challenge that. Today is the first day, and I will run an interactive experience with a local Saudi photographer. We will take portraits of people before and after talking to them to see the difference.
These pictures will be shown in the plaza area. I am excited and nervous about the project, but I trust Ithra and their team. I will chat, take photos, meet new people, and learn about different cultures. Today is a test day to see what works, and we will do it again tomorrow. I am very excited about this first 2024 project!
It’s rather scary how social media becomes a battleground for the general public, it’s almost an extension of the wars around the world. Giving in to the algorithm and unfollowing views you don’t “believe in”, unconsciously narrows your view of the world. Social media is becoming increasingly a tool to distract us all from who we should really be aiming our anger or opinions to... our governments & MP’s.

Lunes are a fantastic graphical design company based in East London; they actually designed all the exhibition graphics for my collaborative project “ISO Box”.
They kindly asked me to be apart of a new magazine concept which would document and highlight people from all over the globe during this current pandemic. Of course I jumped at the chance.
The zine features interviews from people in lockdown from Antigua to Italy to USA, it’s a really nice uplifting read too. The zine features new images from my latest lockdown project, “Through the lens of my Window” (Working Title), a series of photographs that give a brief look at each day of my lockdown as I point my camera to the sea. It’s been a very therapeutic project to start….

Today was the day when a couple of weeks (on and off) work came to an end. I was commissioned to capture the portraits of a wonderful family. They wanted an honest take on their children; ultimately a collection of images that documented them in their family home. We shot the images together, letting the children guide me, as a way to make them more relaxed in-front of the camera.
The environment in which the photograph sits.
I wanted the final photographs to feel at home in their new environment, in a way that wasn’t over whelming or over powering for the space that already had such a lovely style. The main piece is a group shot of all three children with the backdrop of the apartments.
We then also wanted to have a single portrait of each of the children. I decided to keep this as simple as possible - I didn’t want to take away from the photographs - which, in turn, working well with the design of the house and helped create a relaxed nature to the series.
Overall I am very happy with the end result, as I feel the photographs not only capture the children in an honest way but they also capture them in a way that reflects their age.
I want to thank the family for giving me this opportunity to shoot such a wonderful bung of children. I also want to say a massive thank you to Sarah Lang, a fellow studio artist, for recommending me to them.
Thank you Point101.com for the outstanding printing and Framing. All images printed on Canson Baryta Photographique 310gsm
Last but not least, thank you too Marcus Orlandi for doing such a wonderful job at hanging. Literally wouldn’t have had a clue what to do.

People always ask me why I like shooting portraits; for me it’s more than just the image, it’s about respecting the subject. I love making them feel at ease with me, I don’t just run up and point my camera unexpectedly! I like to spend time getting to know them, making them laugh and letting the conversation flow. This way you build trust and they relax, letting you freely take their portrait. Afterwards always, ALWAYS, show them your images! This helps further build a relationship & a foundation of trust in your work. It also makes people feel good!

This woman was very reluctant to have her photo taken & she insisted on me giving her money, (I know this is something you should never do, as it encourages begging) but after we laughed and I showed her some of my other portraits she openly said, “Take my picture.”

Take time with your subjects and you’ll get better results. 🌎🇵🇪
