This project sets out to explore what it’s like to be LGBTQ+ living outside major cities.
As a gay man who left my hometown to understand better who I am, I know first-hand how complex that journey can be — and I believe it’s a story many of us share.
Over time, I realised that busy city life wasn’t for me, so I chose to move to a smaller city with the countryside on my doorstep. Now, I’m speaking to LGBTQ+ people who also moved away to find themselves but later chose to live in smaller towns, villages, or rural areas.
I want to understand why so many of us feel the pull of big cities to be ourselves, and what draws some of us back to quieter places, despite the challenges.
I’m exploring how place shapes identity, belonging, and community through portraits and conversations.
